The chlor-alkali industry is one of the major electrochemical processes producing mainly chlorine and sodium hydroxide (caustic soda). Chlorine and sodium hydroxide are among the most produced chemicals in the world. Chlor-alkali process involves the electrolysis of sodium chloride solution (brine) producing chlorine at the anode and sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) at the cathode.
In the last 30 years many improvements were made in the chlor-alkali industry. There are two main milestones that revolutionized this process, the development of metal anodes and the changeover of the old diaphragm and mercury technologies to membrane cells. Nowadays, the membrane cell process is the most used in the world.

Precious Metal Oxide Coating
Tiaano’s coating systems are based on a range of nano-structured multi-layers of metal oxides; these include Ru, Ir, Pt, Pd and Ti - offer increased performance over conventional materials by maximizing catalytic phases and surface area interactions. By adding doping agents to the catalysts, we are able to make them more selective and further improve performance.
Anode Repair and rectification
We have in-house facility for the production of anode Louvers for the repair and rectification of Membrane Anodes (UHDE BM2.7).
Coating
Highlight of the re-coating, we have our in-house facility to conduct the activation (precious metal oxide coating like ruthenium and iridium), it has been approved by M/s. TUV and M/s. Lloyds register.
Refinery
Tiaano is having in its own refinery for preparing Metal Oxides from the precious metal sponge.
Zero Gap Retrofit
We undertake ‘Zero Gap Retrofit’ of all Chlor Alkali Cathode elements by using Nickel Mattress / Coil cushion and MMO activated (in-house) Flynet / Woven Mesh to improve the voltage efficiency.
